Some
activities for your health and enjoyment
As we
enjoy the autumn weather, it is very enticing to get out in the open air
with the family and get some exercise. There are a number of
fantastic activities to support this:
Amateur Athletics
are just winding down their season, finishing in a couple of
weeks. Little Athletics will continue for
about another month, although the rainy afternoons have dampened
some spirits. For more information, visit http://athletics.armidale.info
Armidale Triathlon Series Go to
the Triathlon
page to view the results of the 2005 2006 season. Next
season starts at the end of 2006 and the site will display start
dates when they have been organised.
Orienteering
These are conducted about once a month in various venues around
Armidale, usually of a Sunday. Orienteering is fantastic
fun and you get to see lots of our fabulous countryside.
You get a map and off you go. There are four levels of
difficulty – blue, green, orange & red. Visit NTOC
website:
http://www.armidale.info/sport.htm and click on
Orienteering. Next event: Wednesday 8 March,
22 Ross Street - Armchair Course Setting - for more advanced
Orienteerers. Sunday 19 March, Avondale Forest, full four
levels of
difficult orienteering -
see the website for
more details.
The
Orienteering Twilight Series was a great success with many new orienteerers coming along to see how they fair, and many looking
forward to the more challenging events coming up in 2006.
Basketball
Why not try basketball this term. Only about
7 weeks of competition to see whether you like the
sport. The advantages of basketball are that the
games only go for 40 minutes, they can't be washed out and
it is fantastic for your fitness. For more
information check out the
basketball
site. You may be interested in keeping abreast
of what is happening at the new basketball stadium
situated on the grounds of Armidale High School.
The Den has
their own site and to keep up to data visit their new
site.
Bushwalking
How about seeing some of the fantastic
region that Armidale
has. Try a little rock hopping at the Blue Hole -
follow the Castledoyle Road just after the 60km sign
going out of Armidale on the Waterfall Way.
A beautiful and peaceful place for a picnic and swim.
The photo above is one of many rock holes to swim in.
