Feature Business

This month we feature two Armidale businesses.

Armidale

Boutique

Accommodation

The

Newie

Armidale Boutique Accommodation is offering a complimentary bottle of wine just for staying at one of their cottages.  Mention this ad or print off the voucher and let Tracy or David know that you or your family would like that welcome complimentary bottle of wine.  There are two cottages to choose from. (Click here to print off a voucher)  The Newie, located on the corner of Beardy and Dangar Streets, is offering a St Patrick's Day special.  Drop the voucher at the Newie on St Patrick's day to go in the draw to win a dinner for two and free bottle of wine, and, enjoy yourself with St Patrick's Day celebrations whilst there.  A special St Patrick's menu is being offered - 17 March 2006. (Click here to print off a voucher)

Traineeships - If you have a new employee who has been with you for less than 3 months, you may wish to consider placing them on a Traineeship.  We offer Traineeships that are assessed in-house and have on the job training and therefore don't require the new staff member to be away from work attending courses.  If you would like more information, visit the traineeship information page.  Some of the benefits could include:

  • possible grants

  • increased commitment

  • flexible training on or off the job

  • Nationally accredited training

  • career pathway

  • free training costs

Name the Bird Unfortunately, no-one was able to guess the name of the bird on the left.  It was found in a backyard in Armidale.  I am letting people guess for another month to test their researching skills (photo courtesy of Maurice Anker).  Prize courtesy of Len Zell, Wild Discovery Guides™

Len has kindly offered a copy his book "Shark Bay - Ningaloo Coast & Outback Pathways" to go in the draw as a prize for correctly naming the bird.  Click here to guess the name of the bird.

The photo on the right was kindly donated by Sally Strelitz, which Maurice Anker was correct in answering that it was taken from  Shannons End near Mitchells Knob

Photo Competition:  Please submit your photos for a competition.  Include your caption.  Prizes will be announced at a later date.  If you would like to donate a prize, please let me know.  There are already a couple of great prizes to be won.  The winner/s will be announced in the July edition of the Ezine.

Some activities for your health and enjoyment

As we enjoy the autumn weather, it is very enticing to get out in the open air with the family and get some exercise.  There are a number of fantastic activities to support this:

Amateur Athletics are just winding down their season, finishing in a couple of weeks.  Little Athletics will continue for about another month, although the rainy afternoons have dampened some spirits.  For more information, visit http://athletics.armidale.info

Armidale Triathlon Series  Go to the Triathlon page to view the results of the 2005 2006 season.  Next season starts at the end of 2006 and the site will display start dates when they have been organised.

Orienteering  These are conducted about once a month in various venues around Armidale, usually of a Sunday.  Orienteering is fantastic fun and you get to see lots of our fabulous countryside.  You get a map and off you go.  There are four levels of difficulty – blue, green, orange & red.  Visit NTOC website: http://www.armidale.info/sport.htm and click on Orienteering.  Next event:  Wednesday 8 March, 22 Ross Street - Armchair Course Setting - for more advanced Orienteerers.  Sunday 19 March, Avondale Forest, full four levels of difficult orienteering - see the website for more details.

The Orienteering Twilight Series was a great success with many new orienteerers coming along to see how they fair, and many looking forward to the more challenging events coming up in 2006.

Basketball  Why not try basketball this term.   Only about 7 weeks of competition to see whether you like the sport.  The advantages of basketball are that the games only go for 40 minutes, they can't be washed out and it is fantastic for your fitness.  For more information check out the basketball site.  You may be interested in keeping abreast of what is happening at the new basketball stadium situated on the grounds of Armidale High School.  The Den has their own site and to keep up to data visit their new site.

Bushwalking  How about seeing some of the fantastic region that Armidale has.  Try a little rock hopping at the Blue Hole - follow the Castledoyle Road just after the 60km sign going out of Armidale on the Waterfall Way.  A beautiful and peaceful place for a picnic and swim.  The photo above is one of many rock holes to swim in.
