Some
activities for your health and enjoyment
As we
enjoy the autumn weather, it is very enticing to get out in the open air
with the family and get some exercise. There are a number of
fantastic activities to support this:
The Cross Country season
began on
Wednesday 4 May, 4.30 pm at Moran Oval (southern end of Taylor
Street) There are three
courses to choose from: 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km. Open
to everyone - you can run, jog or walk - just great for getting
fresh air. For more information, visit http://athletics.armidale.info
Armidale Triathlon Series Go to
the Triathlon
page to view the results of the 2005 2006 season. Next
season starts at the end of 2006 and the site will display start
dates when they have been organised.
Orienteering
These are conducted about once a month in various venues around
Armidale, usually of a Sunday. Orienteering is fantastic
fun and you get to see lots of our fabulous countryside.
You get a map and off you go. There are four levels of
difficulty – blue, green, orange & red. Visit NTOC
website:
http://www.armidale.info/sport.htm and click on
Orienteering. Next event: 10-12 June,
QBIII, Queen's Birthday long weekend at Banalasta, this is a
State League event - you can get some real competition at this
event or just go along and have some fun. On the Saturday
and Sunday there are many courses to choose from and on the
Monday, get together with two other orienteerers and form a team
for the relay event -
see the website for
more details.

Basketball
Why not try basketball.
The advantages of basketball are that the
games only go for 40 minutes, they can't be washed out and
it is fantastic for your fitness. For more
information check out the
basketball
site. You may be interested in keeping abreast
of what is happening at the new
basketball stadium
situated on the grounds of Armidale High School,
The Den.
Bushwalking
How about seeing some of the fantastic
region that Armidale
has to offer. Walk around Cathedral Rock -
fantastic bushland, views if you are prepared to walk up
and climb - not for the faint hearted if you want to get
the panoramic view at the top of the rock. There
are walking tracks to suit all.
A beautiful and peaceful place for a picnic. Just 45
minutes east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way.
