Pharmacists prepare and dispense
medicines and advise on their appropriate use. Pharmacists
provide not only prescription drugs, but over the
counter drugs and other health products.
Drugs supplied under Part V11 of the
National Health Act 1953 (Pharmaceutical Benefits) are
typically subject to heavy subsidisation by the Commonwealth
Government and as such consumers only directly pay for a portion
of the total cost of the drugs.
Pharmacists may also provide other health services such as
health management programs for problems including asthma,
smoking, heart, arthritis. Pharmacists can also provide checks
for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. |
