This Sunday
sees the third Triathlon for the season being contested. The
event is open to any individual or team of up to 3 persons.
There are four events, the Long Course, Short Course, Junior and
kids race. The Long course is a 400m swim, followed by a 20km
ride and 4km run, starting a the TAS complex. The short course
is half the long course and the junior course is half the short
course, while the kids race is a swim of 25 metres, ride of
approx 500m around the TAS oval and a run of approx 400m. We
encourage all interested persons to either turn up or organize a
team to contest the swim, ride and run as a team.
The November
event saw some large improvements in times from a lot of the
competitors even though the bike leg was against a strong wind
on the outward leg. The event also saw 16 new individual
competitors and 6 new teams contest the event. The results of
each series event can be found at
www.armidale.info/triathlon.htm
We expect Mick
Hoult to dominate the Open Long course again after 2 winning the
first 2 races. Mick took 34 seconds off his October time. Jodi
Heeney from Tamworth will be hard to beat after her good win
last time. She took 17 seconds off her first outing time. Sarah
Heagney showed great improvement taking one minute and 37
seconds off her Race 1 result.
Glen Mobbs has
won both of the short course series events this year and should
continue this trend. Emma Coman-Jeffries leads the womens event
winning both races this season and putting a lot of pressure on
Glen to take outright the short course event.
Geoff Allen was
the biggest improver in the short course taking 4 minutes and 40
seconds off his last time. Robyn Hayden led the girls slashing 3
minutes and seven seconds of her October time. Nicole Sullivan
and Tony Gilbey both reduced their times by 2 minutes.
Nigel Bell
competing in his first event for the season was first past the
post in the junior event ina ime of 21 minutes and 26 seconds.
There were some great improvers from the last event with Matthew
Hayden taking an amazing 3 minutes and 52 seconds off his time,
Georgina Thompson was jus as amazing taking 2 minutes and 40
seconds off her time. Kyle O’Hara also took 32 seconds off his
time.
Well done to
the Jacksons for their great effort in the kids race. Jackson
Harris finished in 4 minutes ad 6 seconds and Jackson Gwynne in
4 minutes and 23 seconds. The attendance at the kids race was a
bit disappointing and we hope that many more will turn up at
this Sunday’s event, with registration from 7:45 to 8:30 at the
TASW complex for a kick off of the Long Course event at 9am.
